FaitalPRO returns to neodymium with high frequency driver

HF106 – HF 146   (as seen on Pro Audio Middle East January February 2014 issue)

ITALIAN MANUFACTURER FaitalPRO has launched two high frequency drivers including the neodymium HF106, a version of the HF107.

The HF146, a 'technologically evolved' version of the existing HF144 (which will remain in the company's catalogue), is also new.

The neodymium HF106 is described as boasting 'a fully annular design, from the diaphragm to the phase plug'.
The return to neodymium follows an easing of the price hikes that have plagued the metal in recent years.
The driver uses a 44mm voice' coil and circuit with a neodymium ring magnet, and reportedly weighs 'just a shadow' over 1kg.
Its AES nominal power dissipation capacity is 60W (maximum power 120W), while its sensitivity rating is 110dB 1W/1m with a suggested crossover frequency of 1.3kHz (12dB/oct).
Its annular design is intended to deliver a smooth frequency response to over 20kHz.
Unlike the ferrite HF107, the HF106 allows the replacement of the recone-kit directly from the back without the need to dismount the driver from the horn.

Meanwhile, the HF146 reportedly boasts a more linear frequency response and a different tonal balance when compared to the original HF144.
Otherwrse, the driver's technical data remains the same - an AES power rating of 80W (maximum Power 160W), sensitivity of 109dB 1W/1m and a suggested crossover frequency 0.9kHz (12dB/oct).
Additionally, the magnet assembly still uses 15 neodymium slugs instead of the classic ring, while the dimensions and weight of the model are unchanged.
