Aware of the importance of building a future with their customers that will be based on emerging technologies, the Italian company CVE, Communication Video Engineering, is committed to redefining the way in which IP and the cloud are used to move and manage live video content.
In this unstoppable process, CVE constantly evaluates new technologies and suppliers.
Techex is one of the few brands that - rightly - are among the partner specialists in cloud applications and video over IP; they are exactly the same areas in which CVE also boasts a very strong specialization.
Present on the broadcast video market for a long time, Techex since 1971 and CVE for over 40 years, on intertwined and sometimes parallel paths, the two companies constantly continue to search for innovative technologies and workflows in order to guarantee customers a competitive advantage.
CVE, which distributes Techex systems in Italy, boasts among its customers the most important names in the broadcast and OTT landscape in Italy, having supplied ST-2110 production technological infrastructures and, before that, the complete design of cloud infrastructures for fastest growing content distribution on the market.
The last frontier is centralized IP production, a true reality with complete processes involving uncompressed video over IP.
CVE today masters environments based on standard SMPTE-2110 protocols, AMWA (Advanced Media Workflow Association)
specifications and suite of NMOS tools that make real the control and interoperability of devices of different brands, typical of television production.
The transition to SMPTE-2110 infrastructures and the use of JPEG-XS compression, now allows the creation of production infrastructures based on seamless connectivity, even in multi-site environments, by centralizing procedures and with extremely low video latency.
In the past, traditional structures were often based on "monolithic" solutions, while today new integrated SDN software capable of using COTS Commercial Off The Shelf hardware or software-only solutions, allow great agility throughout the production chain, from multiviewers to video mixers and make the workflow in production much more agile, even from a remote location.
Remote Production (Remote Infrastructure, Remi)
The Covid 19 pandemic has definitely accelerated procedures that were already being developed and the most evident is remote production which, now increasingly mainstream, started from sports facilities and interactive study environments, but has become a standard for different production segments.
The possible scenarios are now different and the advantages obvious: flexibility, savings in scale on travel costs, accommodation, personnel expenses.
By centralizing the necessary equipment, including graphics, and production resources, a much more flexible reuse and consequent cost savings are possible.
The flexibility of the possible choices in this area is very dynamic and "remote production" is certainly not synonymous with low cost or low quality.
A mix of remote operations and IP operations allows a complex production to be spread over multiple offices and structures connected via IP, using direct IP connections or over the Internet.
Even the equipment does not necessarily have to crowd a single tech engine room located near the control room: studios and transmission facilities can be external, scattered and distant.
The further step of these concepts, that is "in cloud" production, allows to use only the necessary production resources and therefore also the investments are contracted leaving field to the "pay as you use".
At the basis of all these shared processes is the need to manage low-latency, synchronized and reliable video, audio and auxiliary data streams between the various locations involved (production control, equipment plant or data center, cloud facilities, studio and location of external shooting).
This UK company offers low-latency production and monitoring solutions for primary sources and low-bandwidth H.264 or HEVC for secondary streams between locations.
Broadcast IP gateways and firewalls provide secure and reliable flows between IP links and the Internet, with seamless packet protection over redundant links.
SDN orchestration operates across the entire infrastructure, with endpoint monitoring providing deterministic routing over the IP infrastructure, while monitoring paths to ensure the most reliable connectivity.
All this makes the remote editing process plausible, bidirectional live video interviews, sending multiple camera signals via a Gigabit Ethernet connection, end-t operation perfect and secure o-end with integrated QoS, FEC, SRT and network redundancy solutions.
CVE, using Techex solutions, is able to ensure remote production environments on SD, HD, 3G-HD and 4K UHD standards.
