Harris Corporation Greatly Increases Storage Space, Lowers Costs for Broadcasters

Vast Increases in NEXIO® SAN Storage and Integrated Storage Server Capacity

CINCINNATI, January 5, 2010 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has introduced a 33-percent increase in storage capacity to its range of NEXIO® SAN (storage area network) storage arrays at the same price of its previously highest-capacity storage solution. This increase raises the total usable storage capacity to 96 TB, while maintaining full redundancy at the connectivity layer.

The improvement is achieved using new 600 GB drives — allowing customers to store up to 14,000 hours of MPEG-2 12 Mb/s or 3,600 hours of Sony® XDCAM® HD422 content in a single SAN. Harris is the first broadcast supplier to offer 600 GB drives in its storage arrays at the same price as its previous-generation 450 GB drives — significantly lowering the cost per terabyte for customers.

Harris also has increased the storage capacity of the NEXIO AMP® integrated storage server (model number NX3601HDI), jumping from 3.75 TB to 10 TB of usable storage — a 266-percent increase. Customers now can store up to 1,400 hours of MPEG-2 12 Mb/s or 350 hours of XDCAM HD422 content at the same price of the previous solution.

“Video bandwidth has increased dramatically with HD, along with the associated demand for storage,” said Brian Cabeceiras, vice president of strategic marketing and technology for Harris Broadcast Communications. “Our additional capacity is ideal for broadcasters working with valuable, high-bandwidth assets including HD content for news, sports, production and programming.”

He added: “The increases in storage capacity for NEXIO SAN and integrated storage address our customers’ needs for more channels and more efficient handling of large volumes of content. We have increased storage capabilities, while significantly lowering the cost for our customers.”

Harris products using the new capacity integrate with Harris® NewsForce™ server/editing solutions, NEXIO video servers, NXIQ™ near-line archive storage, ADC™ and D-Series™ automation and Invenio® digital asset management systems, as well as third-party products. The new storage capacity further improves Harris Corporation’s leading SAN offerings and Intrinsic Mirroring™, its unique redundancy architecture.
