Sports mess rights Italian TV

7th August 2012 This summer is an incredible sports season for Italy in which we assisted at the European Championship and the Olympic Games which are still developing. All these events are a huge profitable area for National broadcaster RAI, again sports protagonist this season. But balances among the main media players may rapidly change.

1st August 2012. From 2008 onwards, Milan and district Santa Giulia is the headquarter of SKY Italia, the subscription tv operator via satellite in Italy. It's a huge complex styled by Australian architects Byron Harford Associates and Urbam Studio Milan, housing a technological pole of 960 km of fibre optics, and some 800 km of data transfer cables and some 600 km of electrical cabling.

1st August London 2012, time for streaming

A recent Riverbed Technology market survey showed that around one third of Europeans are following the Olympic Games form London online in streaming. The survey completed last April touched some 3,500 people and the forecasts were one out of five inhabitants of Europe would be online rather than watching the Olympics on tv, showing a hugely increased trend if compared to the previous edition. Another important factor is that half of such audience is not bound to stand two minutes delays in streaming or they are switching to alternative sources to watch the games. According to this survey the most followed sports are men's 100m (51% preferences), men's 100 freestyle (36%), and men's football finals (30%).

After 4th July: Italy is now digital

15 JUly 2012 Italian Ministry of Economic Development published some statistic datas according to the completed process of switch over to the digital terrestrial transmissions. This process was officially completed last 4th July with the last analogical high frequencies plant switched off in Palermo, Sicily.

The whole national territory is now digital and this new technology involves 10 national networks, over 550 local minor tv networks, for an amount of over 24,200 transmission plants.

RAI with BLT at London 2012 Olympics

26 July 2012. Exactly one month ahead of the official opening in the Salone d'Onore of CONI in Roma - it was publicly presented “Casa Italia” for the Olympic Games in London 2012.

Six floors and 29 different spaces for events in over 6 thousand sqm, in a building near the City, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and London Eye.

9th July 2012. According to a recent announcement, Italian state broadcaster RAI choses again a national company with headquarters in Santa Maria a Monte near Pisa -ClassX- for all graphics lineup of London 2012 Olympics.

After Beijing Olympics in 2008, Vancouver 2010, even London 2012 will see 3D and HD live animated graphics developed on the new software CoralCG.
