A new flagship OB-Truck sailing for NVP

24 Camera production truck

Founded in 1992, NVP is well known on the world of tv production. Specialized in the production of live events their professionalism, creativity, and technological innovation are no secret that strength this company from Messina, Sicily.
Natalino Pintabona, founder and partner tells us: "We have had a passion for sports events, concerts, television programs, news, documentaries, the movie-making industry and live events in general, for over 10 years. Among our main company pluses are customer care, design expertise, and constant technological updating."

"We have always followed the needs of a changing and more and more complex market. So, once again following in the path of innovation we recently decided to invest in a newly completely 4K ob-truck, to complement our fleet."
"We really feel a forward-looking broadcast production service company and being called to operate for some of the largest and most demanding media organizations all around the world, we decided it was about time to invest further, even in a period of uncertainties.
And here is the birth of a brand new first class broadcast OB van: a 14-meter production flagship truck which is able to satisfy all the demands of a constant evolving market."
Actually, it is a model of technical and operational efficiency, since it can produce two separate events at the same time."

The driving idea is the real need to produce in several media formats, even contemporarily. And here is a new truck capable of shooting, post producing and delivering HD, UHD, SDR, HDR formats, contemporarily.
Another keyword is the complete respect of the actual budget, which is more and more constraint following the lower budgets of today's tv production.
Francesco Struzzi of Video Progetti, the Italian system integrator who built this vehicle, officially declared: "A System Integrator has to keep several concepts in mind in order to deliver solid, functional and cost-effective OB vans. Following the proliferation of numerous video formats, and delivery platforms, media content rights owners require several video distribution formats of the same event, which can be produced for multiple customers and delivered over several platforms to different regions. In such a complex market, producing multiple high quality contents in a cost effective way, allows OB production services to satisfy multiple customers and optimize OPEX and CAPEX investments."
The latest OB-Van by NVP so had to satisfy several requests: it had to be able to produce in several formats, HD-SDR, HD-HDR and UHD-HDR and deliver media by two broadcasters over satellite, DTT and OTT.
It had to be capable of leveraging the latest technologies such as IP.
Even integrate requests which were not expressed at the time of designing it, but potentially may be crucial tomorrow.
So any new creation in the field of tv production is a real challenge as per designing, integrating and building all the technical features one can imagine, fulfill now and foresee for the future, on a rather hectic segment of time.
This is no easy matter and can be reached only after a sever series of meetings between the integrator and the customer in order to understand any possible need and field engagement. This concept has become more and more demanding nowadays.
It's no longer a means of just integrating all the latest technologies on the market. Besides keeping a careful eye on costs, perhaps the main value now is "flexibility" to reply to unforeseen or ever changing situations.
That may mean to fast reconfigure the production environment to respond to sudden needs, and lower budgets restraints.
This pre-production engineering and study phase took the system integrator Video Progetti six months: a long period due to accomplish all the tasks requested by NVP who wanted a future proof investment.
In a way, this new 14-metre OB-van could be a reference for all new vehicles since it can already produce two separate events at the same time and in multiple video formats, ans so can be extremely useful in productions all around the world.
Actually after few month from official market debut, this vehicle has already faced some of the most difficult tv productions all around the world.

In order to be a future proof creation, HDR, IP,UHD, this powerful and functional ob-van had also to be reliable and sure. So the whole range of activities and facilities are completely redundant.
This 14 mt truck, 60 sqm is a 38 t vehicle has two extensions on the right side and one on the left side and several access points to be more than safe and to be able to handle any possible emergency. All service communications are provided with MADI ClearCom equipments, on board two separate galleries are fed with independent inputs. The area is divided in eight distinct production zones: video gallery1, audio gallery1, replay1, tech management1, video gallery2, audio gallery2, graphics/replay2, engineering and camera control area.
Air conditioning is double and redundant with 4 discrete systems and also the UPS are redundant and modular. All production equipments are connected to two discreet power supply systems and double power controller. Video Mixer and central router is redundant. The whole on board tech systems are controlled via redundant VSM system which can by bypassed for manual single unit control via each panel/software on the spot.
All production resources are switchable and dynamically assignable to the eight production areas in board. Each production area may produce in each possible format.
Production formats are increasingly from SD to UHD-2 with HDR simulcast and SDR/HDR.
Onboard, SAM mixer and main central router allow traditional or IP production, just switching rear connectors. Being an all IP ready vehicle, through 10G remote operations audio, video, intercom, and data can be shared by several remote venues and per production and monitoring. All such remote spots are fed by a redundant 10GB IP network.
First class tech equipment are as per video mixer: SAM Khauna 9600, 120 in, 64 out, 6 ME boards (=24 ME), 3 Pannelli (1x ME, 2x ME, 3xME). Routers: SAM Sirus 840 (hybrid) 576x576 + 140 out (MW) 24 Madi in, 24 Madi out 18,432 audio channels; 5x Kaleido MX 48x4 Multiview, Tv Logic monitors, intercom by Clear Com Eclipse Omega HX 112, 32 IP Ports, 2 madi ports, 128 bi-directional channels, 5 panels 24 buttons, 18 panels 12 buttons. The audio section is composed of Lawo mixer mc2 56, 2 panels, 64 in, 48 out analogic, 8in, 8 madi out, 16 in, 16 AES out.
The replay section is wired for x8 EVS XTR 12 channels, 12 Canali EVS LSM XT, multiview system for contents sharing.
The mechanical part boasts a frame with maximum weight up to 39,000 Kg; the bodywork is made of a stainless steel sandwich and fiberglass and polystyrene. All hydraulic movements have manual control and central counters are also hydraulic.
Extremely easy to open and close the expansions are designed for the internal furniture to close one in another, without leaving any free space.
Also provided are a motorized antenna for KU reception, and a pneumatic pole for DTT, Wifi Network.
Provided are also redundant UPS 60 KWA (4 Moduls), 3x insulator transformers, double power in, double power supply on all equipments, double power supply for all production areas.
The whole project was studied and developed with the complete help of Ing. Ivan Pintabona whi is teh tech manager and the vehicle has been operating since march 2017 in a dozens of top tv events, including short track in Turin, the Champions League, Europa League, G7 meeting in Taormina, the Golden Gala in Rome, and others.
